  5. This demo has been released as shareware on the 26th of January 1993 by
  6. the author, Joseph Dunn. This is the READ.ME file for the latest version
  7. of Cd Scan, THE Cd Cataloging System you've been waiting for!

  9. This demo includes lots of new and exciting features like full 
  10. mouse support, colour/mono support, data protection and all the features
  11. that should be in such a cataloging system like statistical analysis,
  12. onscreen browsing, a comprehensive search facility, a print facility,
  13. many useful utility options like the merging of catalogs, track time
  14. manipulation for recording purposes, text file creation for aiding in
  15. making cassette labels and lots more!

  20. This demo has some restrictions: you are limited to only 20 cds
  21. instead of 2000 and only 10 tracks per cd instead of 40
  22. accommodated on the Registered version. This demo is to enable 
  23. you to test Cd Scan's suitability for your needs before 
  24. purchasing a fully functional copy. If you continue to use Cd 
  25. Scan after a 30 day trial period you must register it by sending 
  26. a cheque or money order of $75 too me, the author, at the address
  27. below. You must specify what disk size you prefer and give a 
  28. clear contact address, phone number (if possible) and email 
  29. address (if possible) to make it easier for me to send you your 
  30. disk and printed user manual (which is what your registration 
  31. entitles you to). I will also make an effort to inform registered 
  32. users of major updates to the software.

  34. Disclaimer: I Joseph Dunn, the author of Cd Scan, will not be 
  35. made liable for any reason regarding the use or inability to use 
  36. this software. The software comes as is, you use it at your own 
  37. risk, however, I have tested it as comprehensively as time has 
  38. permitted and found it to perform as documented. All suggestions 
  39. for improvements and/or bug reports are certainly welcome, and, 
  40. necessary for the progression of any software.

  43. Upgrading from v1.xx to 2.00
  44. Version 2.00 of Cd Scan introduced a new, streamlined method of 
  45. storing its data files. As a result, data files created using 
  46. earlier versions, namely 1.xx, are not compatible with versions 
  47. 2.xx but before you panic, I've included an upgrade utility to 
  48. convert between the two formats. To upgrade your old data files, 
  49. do the following: (I emphasise that this process is only 
  50. necessary for versions earlier than 2.00)

  52. 1. After installing Cd Scan on your machine, make sure your old 
  53. data files are in the same directory as all the Cd Scan 
  54. Distribution files and in particular, the UPGRADE.exe file.
  55. 2. Type UPGRADE
  56.  
  57. 3. After pressing the Enter  key, the upgrade utility will 
  58. proceed to convert your data files. Note: the new files will be 
  59. named CD_INDEX.DAT and CD.DAT.
  60.  
  61. 4. once you have run Cd Scan and ascertained that your files have 
  62. been correctly upgraded, you may delete the UPGRADE.EXE file and 
  63. your old data files. It is wise to test the converted files first 
  64. although I see no reason that they should not have been 
  65. successfully upgraded.

  67. Distribution: I encourage you to distribute the archive file as 
  68. far and wide as you like, the only restrictions being that no 
  69. files are modified and that all files are included .
